When Clemson, Auburn make the jump to the ACC: ‘It’s a dream come true’

The University of South Carolina has announced the signing of five new players.

The Panthers have added two more defensive backs, two defensive linemen, one linebacker, two offensive linemen and two wide receivers.

It’s a huge jump from the four-man defensive line that had four members and one wide receiver.

The defensive linemen are all new recruits, and the linebackers are the first new additions in three years.

“This is going to be the best year of my life,” defensive tackle Johnathan Butler said.

“It’s just an unbelievable feeling to be able to get here and play and to have the support of the university, coaches, teammates and the administration, and to be part of this program for the next four years.

The school has done a great job of recruiting the young guys.”

The Panthers had previously recruited four new members, and there will be four new players on the team, which is projected to have 11 returning starters.

South Carolina’s 2017 recruiting class ranked No. 3 nationally in all-purpose yardage, with a school-record 5,955 yards.

The Bulldogs, the No. 4 team in the country, have an offensive line that’s led the country in total yards in each of the last three seasons.

The offensive line is led by senior guard Austin Pouncey, who is No. 2 in the nation in rushing with 6,066 yards.

“Austin has done an outstanding job of building this unit, and his leadership, his ability to motivate and motivate his guys, it’s really been a blessing for this football team,” offensive coordinator Joe Mixon said.

The two quarterbacks on the field are South Carolina grad transfer Christian Hackenberg and Georgia grad transfer Connor Shaw.

“He has a tremendous arm, a tremendous skill set and he’s been very patient in his development,” Mixon added.

South Carolinas quarterbacks have thrown for 3,890 yards and 37 touchdowns.

“We feel blessed to have two guys who are so good in their respective roles, so I think we have a really good combination,” Mizzou head coach Dabo Swinney said.

The team will have a three-year starting quarterback, and six-star quarterback Jaylen Johnson is projected as the starter.
